Public Participation/Comment on Special Education
Funding Application
(Press Release) The Department of Education Division of Special Education has for public review its application for funding under Part B of the individuals with Disabilities Education Act for the Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) with the US Department of Education. These funds are used to provide special education services to all school age children in the Territory of American Samoa who have a disability that adversely affects their classroom achievement. As a condition for granting the funds, each state or territory making application must publish it for at least for 60 days and accept public comments for at least 30 days. The public must be afforded reasonable opportunities for comment for 30 day prior to the submission of the application on May 11, 2009. The Department of Education must review and give due consideration to all comments and suggestions prior to submission of the application for funding.
The Application is posted at ASDOE website: www.doe.as . Copies of the application are available at the Special Education Office located at west end of Matafao Elementary School in Faga'alu. All persons interested in the application are encourages to visit and pick up a copy between the hours of 8:00 am and 4:00pm. Written comments will be taken during those hours.
