It is often mentioned that everyone is unique and that they each bring something different and valuable to an organization. Director of education Dr. Ruth Matagi Tofiga welcomed all of the American Samoa Department of Education (ASDOE) personnel and announced the theme “Committed To Learning For All” “Tautua Punoua’i i le A’oa’oina o Tagata Uma” that will guide our work this new school year.
The Tafuna High School gymnasium was filled with ASDOE personnel elated and excited to participate in the opening assembly to begin the new school year 2018-2019. The ceremony began with the opening prayer led by Rev. Fouvale Asiata. The heavenly voices of the audience led by the ECE staff provided the music and the MC of the day was deputy director Fa’auifono Vaitautolu. Honorable Governor Lolo M. Moliga, and government leaders were present to witness and provide support in this annual event. The School Buses Operators/Drivers were specially recognized and honored for the service they provide in safely transporting the children of American Samoa. The ceremony closed with an annual tradition of singing the dedication to the teachers “Faia’oga e loto tele” and the closing prayer.
The opening assembly was followed by a full week of teacher’s orientation from August 27th to the 31st, 2018. All public school doors were opened on September 4th with the exception of the ECE levels who did not open their doors till September 10th, 2018.
